As we read the king's Solomon history ,seems that he was blessed by God not only with wisdom, but material blessings and spiritual blessing. The only bad thing that happened was that the greatest king went out after the strange women and after their gods. A great sin ! But all of this will not justify God's decision to split the nation of Israel in two unequal parts. Not the enemies but God Himself decided to take from Solomon's son ten tribes and give to the one of his servants. Why ? A great sin ? What SIN ?
The history related in 1 Kings 12 has a surprise answer. It is a heavy yoke, an unbearable burden imposed by Solomon over the people of Israel. When Rehoboam was ready to become the King of Israel , the people of Israel came to him for a change and asked him : " Your father made our yoke heavy ; now therefore, lighten the burdensome service of your father, and his heavy yoke which put on us, and we will serve you ."(v 4)
Rehoboam, the Solomon's son, and the new king , consulted the elders on this request. The advice was very wise : " If you be a servant to these people today, and serve them, and answer them , and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever."(v7) But Rehoboam rejected the elder's advice. He consulted the young men that have grown up with him. Their advice was outrageous :" My little finger shall be thicker than my father's waist! And know, whereas my father put a heavy yoke on you, I will add to your yoke; my father chastised you whips, but I will chastise you with scourges! " (v11) The people's answer was clear, " We have no inheritance in the son of Jessie. To your tents , O Israel !"(v16)
As the result of this devastated decision , the Israel were split in two. It was an unsuccessfull and tragic intention to continue the heavy burden of revenue collection. Almost in danger to blow a civil war. Why all of this ? Why Solomon was the greatest King, and the last ? It was the outside enemies, or inside frictions, or even the sins ? No! It was just the heavy yoke.
Our great country America is split in half. Why ? The sins? The outside enemies ? The inside frictions? It is the ethics ? No! It is just that the honest people of America carry the heavy burden. The poor gets poorer, the rich gets richer. A society when everything gets more expensive , everything increases , except the modest income of millions of patriots. From the peaceful citizen to the faraway soldier , they all silence, pay the heavy cost of the greatness of our country.
Let's remind to our self that God already had made the decision. It is just a matter of time. The tragic consequence did not come yet. It is on the way. The honest people with " no inheritance " will have their way in one day.
And, as in Solomon's time, nothing will stop. Why ? " For this things is from Me " the Lord said.(v24)
